Geek Chic!
So according to the latest cat walk reports for A/W 15/16 ‘geek chic’ makes a prominent appearance & I was mighty glad to hear this what with my ‘chic de chic’ glasses….looks like I’m ‘trending’ without even trying (which of course is always a bonus). Design brand Max Mara took inspiration for its collection from Marilyn Monroe’s study at UCLA’s night school (certainly challenges any ‘dumb blond’ moniker here as she studied history & literature). This I find is an intriguing muse, not only was MM studying, but ‘under the cover of night’, a ‘secret’ life. The collection comprises of pencil skirts, over sized coats, hounds tooth (or is it dog tooth?) jumpers, slouchy ‘cardy’s’, ‘geek glasses’, satchels, large handbag’s (always useful) & geeky beige/grey loafers.
Which brings me neatly to my Clifford James shoes (a nice homely & reassuring brand) featured in my Seaside photo shoot, and a ‘trusty pair of ‘gallopers’ I must say, comfortable, ‘stylish’, go with most looks (though I think I would pass on these for evening wear..) & a total bargain at £4! from a Charity shop a while back..yes I must say I am very happy to be riding on the ‘wave of geek chic‘ what with my glasses & shoes I am totally immersing myself in this ‘fashion sea‘ but who would of thought Marilyn Monroe got there first? So let’s ‘sail aboard’ this look while it lasts & cheer this trend – but wait land ahoy! What will be the next catwalk sensation? ‘Freak chic’ any takers for the muse? Maybe that ‘other Marilyn’? A Mr Manson the one with the ‘alien eyes’ – not sure how I would replicate that! Wonder if they would start stocking ‘alien eyes’ at my local Primark? Now that would be a nice fashion surprise!
