I’m back! (part two)…

I snapped up these patches...

I spotted the Kylie Minogue jean patches in a rather dusty basket of oddments they certainly took me back to the 1980’s so I snapped them up immediately & at 3 for £1 I wasn’t going to pass this offer up! Of course I’m not going to ‘wear’ them I mean Philippa in denim is fashion no no… so I’ve decided to put them on eBay, though I suppose I could sew them on a tote bag but wait! Hold the front page! According to this months Hello Fashion Magazine in an article on fashion blogger tips patches are big this season! With an example of a jacket worn by the Blond Salad’s Chiara (apparently she’s a very very big blogger) & even Anya Hindmarch is getting in on the act with her ‘punchy patches’ so it looks like ‘I’m trending again‘!…

atchpower - as reported in this months Hello Fashion Magazine

My next fashion find was at the end of a lovely boat & train ride (the two go together) along the broads, in the station was a fund raising charity shop where I came across 4 issues of a vintage magazine called Stitchcraft (interesting when typing this out my predictive text insisted on ‘Witchcraft’)..all.from 1971/2. The May 1972 issue featured (but of course) summer fashions, from summer shorts knitted style, to ‘lacy looks’ in crochet, to a man’s ‘after swim’ jacket I was getting rather excited with this find! With the emphasis on knitted items maybe they were anticipating cooler evenings with a summer suit & long cardigan to make? Either way this was not the case in the June 1972 issue with a crocheted bikini where those holes would certainly help you keep cool!…(though this might result in an interesting tan pattern?)

I was 'in stitches' with these!

Summer shorts for the 'young' in my book...

'Lacy looks' crochet stylee

'Man-jacket' - will this catch on??

Knitting not only for winter!...

Relax & unwind in a 'Crochet Creation"So despite my initial worry that I wouldn’t find any ‘fashion inspirations’ all in all I think I did pretty well, as 70’s chic is still dominating many looks this season & I discovered that patches were back! A trend that I certainly didn’t anticipate a return of, though I am glad it’s back because ‘getting your hands dirty’ in making & customising your own clothes were what the 1970’s were all about! Bringing some fashion control & involvement to the individual, expressed creatively which is something I whole-heartedly applaud!
