“Bang on trend” – it’s back to the 80’s!

Marianne is 'leading the way' with this 80''s RevivalSo it’s back to the 80’s with Marianne & of course she’s bang on trend (yet again..) according to Hello Fashion Magazine’s recent report. Oh yes! Top designers are taking keynotes from this decade & reinventing (or maybe rehashing them might be more accurate..) to include in their new collections. From clashing colours to baggy jumpers, we can expect an array of 80’s key looks not only hitting the catwalk but also arriving on the High Street…though I have to say there were lots of aspects of 80’s fashion I would rather forget if you see what I mean…bad hair is definitely one & those horrendous bubble skirts – they were a fashion no no! So how has Marianne captured this ‘trash-glam’ look? Well with my help of course & a lot of charity shopping & improvisation…

A step by step breakdown of Marianne's look

A sequin trail leads to the 80's.....

When I saw an off-shoulder floral & satin dress for £1 I immediately grabbed it off the charity shop rails pronto then I spotted footless rights for 20p! Not a bad start at all!! Enthused by my initial discoveries I was optimistic in my next charity shop hunt…where I found the royal blue cross-body bag for £1 & strappy black diamanté sandals for £4. The ‘junk’ jewellery necklaces were from the table sale on the Isle of man, so it was nice to give them an ‘airing’…the bracelets were from some previous charity shop runs… (I have to say I have amassed rather a collection now…) & whilst visiting my local 99p shop I came upon these red lurex glittery leggings which were just too good to resist…& in there I also found the headband in a pack of two (one black one grey). This headband I customised with my ‘super’ hand stitching incorporating ribbon & sequins from my local haberdasher.  Bbag it! A nice blue cross body looks good & useful too...

(A rare thing these days..unfortunately…) here I also picked up the red net, the net flower was already in my accessory collection. The grey furry pom pom I thought would be a nice touch (a very current trend) which I got from eBay for £2.99 & the sequin cream bow on the dress was an off cut from some of my gloves (as I am ‘no nonsense’ I personally don’t do bows so off they came). The grand total for this look is around £15.18 (a real bargain I have to say) & a thumbs up to my budget fashion hunting skills, (also it does feel rather good to repurpose these pieces). Therefore I hope Marianne is grateful for my efforts & is enjoying her 80’s trip! (Free of charge of course..!)

You know from a decade of recession & political unrest here in the U.K. it’s no wonder fashion got just a ‘little crazy’ with colours, styles, patterns & print, anything to escape the depressing atmosphere for even just a short time…so let’s salute the decade that fashion ‘forgot’ to maybe never forget…(whatever the reason..)
