A fashion ‘faux paux’ – don’t let it ‘slide’…
“Those mules were made for walking and it’s just what they will do”…so now for my very first ‘Style On Trial’ mules/’sliders’ experiment. Ever since the Gucci mules appeared (and stormed I might add..!) the catwalk in 2015, it is taken over 2 years for this trend to hit not only the high street, but also the local populace big time! This was also recently confirmed with seeing them feature on Tokyo Fashion Express too. When I first saw the Gucci slippers 2 years ago I was mightily impressed and thought they were very audacious, which inspired my ‘Slippers of Success’ blog post seen here https://philippanestie.com/slippers-of-success/…but now this look cannot be ignored…and there are ‘interesting’ interpretations as to what to wear with them..(so I’ll do a follow-up on this later on) but here I’ve opted for another hot trend, fishnet ankle tights and to ‘wham it up’ somewhat – neon, which is also another key note this season (and…more to follow on this also..wow I am going to be v busy ..!) but here I give the Primark pink neon mules a go, and kill two or three (?) birds with one ‘fashion’ stone (+ I already had black and white fishnets – which was very convenient) so I was ready to go go go! As comfortable as they were…the bright pink neon was a fashion ‘no, no’ for me…just way too bright! Talk about bringing too much attention to your feet! They also had a multi-coloured option, but I wasn’t struck by that either, I needed a more muted tone. So I looked online and came across New Look’s grey ones, only to my dismay they were sold out! Oh nooo! So just on the ‘off chance’ I made my way to my local store and amazingly there was one pair left in my size! Excitedly I tried them on…speedily I slipped them on only to find…they were very uncomfortable…they were way too tight..literally squeezing the life out of my toes! (It’s not like I have ‘giant’ feet either…). So again this was another disappointment and a second fashion ‘no no’! Oh well..they had black criss cross ones available but not really the muted tone I was after…so what is my verdict on these hot ‘trail blazers’? Yes I like them…but the options available locally did not fit with my vision. So it looks like another online search is required to get my toes ‘on point’ this season, muted mules here I come!
