Am I being ‘brainwashed’…by…Bridal?
As summer wears on…I cannot go any further without mentioning ‘Bridal’. The tradition of the June bride now passed…does not stop summer being the favourite season to ‘tie the knot’. It’s now…when this lucrative and big business industry kicks into high gear. Even though I’m not going to be a ‘Bride’…I still take an interest mainly…because I got ‘hooked’ on programmes such as ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ and ‘Something borrowed, Something new’. If someone had told me five years ago I would have an interest in anything ‘Bridal’, I would have laughed in their face is very very loudly in utter scorn and disbelief …
but on suffering from that ‘artist killer’…pneumonia a couple of years ago to cheer myself up, I flicked through various TV channels until I accidentally…hit on ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ and the rest they say is ‘history’…oh well…it could be ‘crack’ or heroin (or laudanum if I transported myself back to the 19th century..) but this ‘addiction’ is much more ‘manageable’, less ‘damaging’ and my ‘pusher’ is a TV channel in which I can press the control button. So I don’t know if I’ve been either ‘possessed by the ghost of Miss Havisham’ or I was ‘Jilted at the altar in a previous life’, I still continue to be haunted by the ‘Bridal world’ and often watch ‘Say Yes’ so I can nod off peacefully to sleep…no ‘horrors’…no ‘nastiness’…just nice bridal gowns and a whole heap of emotions…which brings me back to the present day Bridal…it’s not just Bridal shops that are ‘bursting with pride’ with their new goods, Charity shops are ‘getting on board’ with the whole ‘Bridal gig’ and why not?
When obviously a lot of bridal gowns are ‘going to waste’, why shouldn’t they be worn again? If you don’t wish to keep your dress why not pass it on to a new owner? After all it’s got very low mileage! Though…excitedly in my town a new shop has opened called ‘Bridal4less’, (and they mean it..) with dresses starting at £99!
Thus opening up opportunities for those on a tight budget, as boy…weddings can be very expensive which brings me to a wedding fund moneybox I found in a Charity shop for just £2! It’s time to start saving now…for next year or maybe several years after that…
and what makes this LOL is that…when doing my art degree I actually wanted to do a performance of chopping up a wedding cake with a…chainsaw! Now look at me…it’s ‘beyond belief’ maybe it’s my ‘subconscious desires’ coming to the surface…now that I’m well beyond the age of the ‘average’ Bride (try doubling it..) and if so who ‘put this desire there’ in the first place? Cinderella? Yes…‘that is when the evil began’, fairy stories can certainly have a lot to answer for….??? But I think it was more than that and a whole lot deeper…and this would take some serious digging…but for now I’m just going to sit back and enjoy…
