A ‘White out’…
White shoes…are they a fashion ‘sin’? Well not according to the current fashion trend, I was more than amused to see them reappear again. Many years ago when I was a teenager it became ‘de rigueur’ to wear white boots! Unfortunately in my area they were called ‘S**g boots’ not very nice at all…and more than put me off getting a pair. Though my friend had some and wore them proudly at a club, but when she heard their derogatory nickname she didn’t ‘dare’ bother again…Which was a shame…As they do rather fly in the face of all that is ‘practicable’ but well isn’t that partly fashion’s purpose? They almost seem like taking a stand of defiance against all that is ‘sensible and safe’ though when something becomes fashionable isn’t that also ‘safe’? When you’re not alone wearing it?
I’ve been reading online advice such as “wear them with jeans and a black tee” or why not go the whole hog and “wear a totally white outfit?” though that does seem rather over the top…(Unless you want a ‘uniform’ look…). And “white shoes should never be worn with hosiery”…why the hell not I wonder? This is according to Michael Kors, you more or less need a tan and gold to carry them off…though since when is he the expert in white shoes? Or maybe I missed some important fashion news recently? I don’t get why you can’t wear hosiery with them? Am I ‘missing’ something here? I would have thought you would definitely be needing some…though as I rarely have a tan…I just don’t think like that…the nearest I get to a tan is ‘American tan’ tights…! White shoes…I remember a line from Serial Mom, “never wear white shoes after labour day”, and that person was the next victim, it was funny even though I didn’t know what it really ‘meant’…except it was definitely portrayed as a fashion crime and a very bad one too. Yes I have found some white shoes on sale near me, but I’m not convinced to partake in this fashion ‘trial’ just yet, unless I can definitely with confidence wear them with hosiery…! Maybe it’s time to break some fashion rules??
