Sherry ‘dry’….

There’s a ‘drought’ on (well as far as I’m concerned) a drought of what exactly? Well only my favourite aperitif and tipple Sherry, but not just any Sherry in fact its ‘Nobleman’ from Lidl, it’s not the best at all but it’s very cheap at £2.99 a bottle. Though on my recent visit (yesterday) there was none, and I mean none there. In fact there was a vacant space on the shelf and Nobleman was omitted entirely…AHH…Help panic stations!  Where the hell is it? No time to ask I had to go…Though I noticed…they have had a recent revamp at the store and now instead of just ‘plonking’ drinks on a shelf with the usual ‘unflattering’ strip lighting, some of the shelves are now lit and only Sherry Nico appears…which though much nicer it’s £5.29 a bottle! Plus there’s no picture on it! I miss the face of my ‘Nobleman’…So what on earth has happened? This is an emergency I’m going to have to investigate ASAP…also I have covered the Sherry issue here almost exactly a year ago (is there something about this time of year that drives one to Sherry…?) https://philippanestie.com/sherry-baby/

So I fired off an enquiry to Lidl’s customer services and even checked on their site and it’s not there either…No! I mean it’s not like they don’t sell loads of it…As often when I’ve gone there is none left. So when I was out on finding that my favourite Sherry was no longer available I sped off to Aldi its ‘twin’ sister store and bought (thus switching my ‘allegiance’ from the ‘Royal’ side to the ‘Common’ side) ‘Cromwell’ at £4.11, so over £1 more expensive (though it has a slightly bigger bottle) so I suppose that compensates a bit at least, but there’s no picture? (There used to be a long time ago…). Otherwise I’m very low on options, there is Caversham’s pale cream or going at the highest end Harvey’s, which I love and is absolutely delicious but unfortunately I don’t love the price considering I drink so much of the stuff…Anyway we’ll see how this pan’s out, but sadly it looks like Nobleman has gone from Lidl shelves at least for the time being. Not happy…
