A Bridal Affair…

this poster got me intrigued and I set the date in my diary...

So I was very excited last week to see an up and coming wedding fair at my town’s largest hotel. It’s rather a ‘swish joint’ so I was looking forward to attending the ‘soiree’. Plus it was free entry so what was there to lose? I certainly needed a new Bridal fix in what would be my first Bridal fair at the age of 49! The fact that I am neither young or nor a Bride did not deter me at all. I thought what the hell? I may as well go with a ‘cover story’ – in that I was researching for ‘my sister’s wedding as she was getting married in June next year’. So plenty of time for Bridal preparations! I entered the building at the appointed time and enquired “Where was the Bridal fair?” “On the first floor”, was the reply so I hastily made my way to the lift area and zoomed up excitedly to the first floor. My camera phone was at the ready ‘on pointe’ for a photographic extravaganza!

I had to make most of the minimal displays...

So stepping out of the lift I had every expectation of a true ‘Bridal experience’, despite being a Bridal fair ‘virgin’. So what did I encounter when the lift doors opened? Not a great deal I have to say, I think I was expecting more somehow, but there were just a few stalls and only two with any sort of display. I must say I was rather disappointed. But well I just had to make the most of what was on offer. One stall was rather interesting with floral displays & fairy lights, the other stall had one wedding dress and a few bouquets…the rest of the stalls were without displays, with someone just sat there either reading a book or looking at their phone..

Also my timing was rather out of sync in that I just missed the Bridal fashion catwalk show! If I would have seen this, it would have really made up for the disappointing amount of variety. Oh well, you can’t have everything, at least I came away with a few Bridal shots and more importantly I was no longer a ‘Bridal fair virgin’. So pictured here is what I found and in addition a puffy sleeved 80’s Bridal gown that was ‘snapped’ at the Liberty Print exhibition I visited the week before. I felt it just had to be featured as there was only one wedding gown at the show. How I wish that eighties gown was there! How I wished there was more more more – to explore! I’ll just have to look out to see if any more Bridal shows will be visiting & I hope and pray there will be a lot more on display next time!
