A Pineapple ‘party’
The other week it was Unicorns this week it’s pineapples, the exotic fruit seems to be everywhere from bags, phone cases, soft furnishings, lights you name it there’s probably a pineapple on it. So what’s this all about? Apparently it’s been a big trend in 2017 though I can’t say I’ve even noticed until this week…(maybe I am rather slow on the uptake with this fashion style…).
Oh well I am getting to it now…it appears fruit generally has been a big influence this year but the pineapple in terms of fashion has been outstripping every other fruit going, it’s very popular and maybe in terms of its appearance you can see why. It’s is extremely colourful, has an interesting shape and texture, with a hard spiky exterior suggesting strength and depth, the base shape is also like a head with the leaves sprouting out at the top into a very ‘funky’ hairstyle.
So it is definitely speaks of character and standing out from the crowd, though now with it everywhere maybe not so…When first brought over to Europe it was a status symbol due to its rarity and exotic connections, it was even rented out to affluent families to show off at the dinner table, before being whisked away to the next the ‘Pineapple party’ thus becoming a symbol of hospitality.
So it’s no wonder it continues to be in demand, also I have just found some pineapple chunks in my cupboard (an essential ingredient to the pineapple upside down cake) a real favourite from my school days (though I have not had it for years…) and wouldn’t mind some now! It would be very nice with my usual ‘high latte’ to reflect on the ‘peak of pineapple popularity’, wonder what’s next?
