An enchanting display

From blingy bags to sparkly displays, all that glitters seems to be ‘de rigueur’ especially in the run-up to Christmas. However, I was pleasantly surprised on a recent visit to Selfridge’s London by this display, with the simple yet effective ruffled pastel (apart from the ‘red’) coloured dresses. Three mannequins on platforms revolved around huge glitter balls, what was there not to like? In my excitement, I failed to capture who the designer was. On further research (via the Selfridge’s website) revealed that the designer is Huishan Zhang – and not only that but ‘exclusive to Selfridge’s’. All three dresses are prefixed with the word ‘Disney’, the blue one is called the Disney Josephine Plissé woven maxi dress, the red one (which is actually fuchsia, but came out red on my photos) is called the Disney Nicolette ruffled woven gown, and finally the yellow one (yep, appears orange in my photo) is the Disney Gala ruffled woven gown also, but without the bow and two extra waist ruffles. What a fine trio of beautiful gowns these are! Absolutely stunning!!

Huishan Zhang Disney Josephine Plissé a truly beauty! But which Disney? I’m out of date & clueless…!

Wish they would suit me, as I would be wearing one now…but as I’m a more ‘dumpy’ frame and nothing like the mannequins I guess it’s not going to work…maybe it would’ve when I was younger, but certainly not now…These mannequins are very tall, and obviously the idealistic body dimension’s, despite this I still love the display. I’m a sucker for mannequins and if they’re wearing dresses this gorgeous, then I’m not going to critique it too much. With this in mind I wondered if I could capture anything like this near where I live? Well as I found out last Friday afternoon, it was very far from anything as good as this, in fact it was pretty awful…so poor that I can’t even post it here…maybe I’ll do that in December (if I’m feeling brave…)…but so far just rather embarrassingly bad. Selfridge’s is a premium store in the centre of London, so the comparison is hardly fair, just more of an interesting jibe. And with very little actual fashion shops near me anymore, literally a very tall order to make...far too tall on this reality check…unfortunately…
