Avert Advert!
So flicking through a few magazines this week I was again taken by the idea off ‘complete lies’. Whether it is a highly retouched image or ‘outrageous’ claims in the advert, I was going back again to ‘don’t believe the hype’. It is hard at times to resist these images which are everywhere…from magazines, billboards, on the side of buses, newspapers and the internet, there is no escape, so I am posting here some adverts that I was ‘struck with’, this week.
Literally I don’t buy it as I had a very bad experience with this product (this was the normal doublewear) which I purchased a while back… I’m afraid to say it them made my face look like a ‘greasy spoon’! Not the required look I can say! I had much hope for this product but was let down badly. Estee Lauder are so relentless, they just keep on going on with this promising it lasts all day blah blah blah…I just don’t buy it (well I certainly don’t any more) sorry Estee Lauder, but this is ‘my truth’.
So I went from don’t buy it! To buy it! Yes I was ‘captivated’ and I knew that I had to buy it to try it! Especially as it’s on offer for £5.99, I think I will ‘swipe right’ with my advantage card this weekend! Yes I would like ‘denser and more opulent’ lashes, I mean why the hell not? I know this may seem rather ‘hypocritical’ and not very ‘feminist’, but having fluttery eyelashes is definitely on my ‘to do list’ this weekend…and I am getting up early for a car boot so I just want to ‘apply and go’ so hopefully this mascara will do the trick and if it doesn’t I’m not gonna be happy! Unlike in America you can’t take makeup back here, only if you could…all the cosmetic companies may well go bankrupt! As most of their claims are absolute rubbish! Oh yes, I’m sure everyone has tried a make up to find it just does not stand up to the advertising claims…Does it ever?
It’s like a bottle from Alice in wonderland’s don’t drink! And I repeat don’t drink! Its perfume! Stand away from the bottle! No really, do not drink the perfume it’s not good for you on any level, so don’t let these adverts tell you otherwise…Actually the girl in the advert could be from Alice in wonderland, in the way she looks, dreamy, far away, romantic, this is a perfume called illicit flower and there’s more than the suggestion that it might not be ‘quite good’ for you…Maybe just a little ‘dangerous’? I don’t know is I haven’t smelt it…yet..I always like a bit of ‘danger’…
More perfume, but this time I have had the chance to get a ‘whiff’ as it were..and it’s definitely ‘floral’ as you might guess from the name…Though I have to say I am not keen on this fragrance…to me there is nothing ‘outstanding’ about it…and it smells just like ‘most other perfumes’. It does have a ‘pleasant smell’ but is rather overpowering so I don’t know if this will be one I’ll go for..as long as I don’t put the ‘stink’ into the ‘bomb’…
Well I am amused with ‘Keratin Smooth’ because when your ‘hair is smooth’ you are ‘in control’…apparently…hmm…very interesting….never really thought of it like that, though whether it would make you feel in ‘total control’ of your life I’m not really convinced are you? I mean have I been whisked back to Stepford? As this advert would be at home there…seriously are we expected to believe this? Well if I had my brain ‘removed or washed’ I probably would…
I was struck by this image with the models expression she looks really p****d off! Or maybe the ‘miserable and woe is me look’ is in? She looks like she’s glancing across giving us a really ‘dirty look’ or as if to say why are you looking at me? Why you’re bothering me? What do you want? Can’t you see I’m busy? I’m striding along with my Louis Vuitton bag, so what more do you want? I’m looking cool, aren’t I? So ‘get out of the way’ or something similar to that effect, anyway it makes a good story…
And finally to end with a true fashion icon Kate Moss, it would be hard to imagine the fashion industry of the last 20 odd years without her…and she is still going strong, looking fantastic ‘hate her’ no really…Though I do see here that even though she looks great, she has been quite heavily retouched…but to what ‘degree’ I suppose we will ‘never know’…Personally I don’t think she needs retouching, but they always do this in magazines and you question what is ‘real and what isn’t’..not a new argument I know, and it is so common that you probably ‘don’t even notice’ it half the time…obviously retouching gives a more ‘polished look’ and will remove any lines (if there is any) get rid of those dark shadows and bags (again if there is any) that to see any unretouched images in a magazine seems so far off an a reality to where we are now…that it seems unimaginable. So maybe Philippa could start a magazine called the ‘truth of beauty‘ or something like that, where we get to the real ‘nitty gritty’ and find out who’s brave enough to go ‘naked’ as it were, any takers?
