Brand ‘graveyard’?

Is it ‘pathetic’ to be upset when a brand essentially dies? The shop that has been there all your life… now suddenly gone? My mind got thinking this way for a number of reasons, though what piqued my interest was a report of a lone mannequin dressed in black wearing a veil looking very forlorn and lost in the window of a now closed Debenhams…in a shopping centre in Kent. There was no ‘explanation’ apart from it was subsequently ‘removed’. All very mysterious…the lady who shared the image on social media suggested that it may be in ‘mourning for Debenhams’? Well yes maybe, Debenhams at present still remains…though there has been quite a few store closures…so who knows what its future will be? I then thought about all the brands that are now defunct and have been lost in the ‘passages of time’ too many to list here, so I’ve highlighted a few.

bye, bye…

Some have closed recently some ‘shut up shop’ quite a while ago. One or two are still ‘trading’ online though how long they will last…? One was bought out and changed names (Chelsea girl to River Island) and one now just trades in Europe C&A. A shop my mum and I frequented countless times during my childhood…oh dear ‘nothing can be done’ it seems and it’s indicative of our times but well I just wanted to mark a pause in the proceedings and reflect, because it is so sad what’s been happening on the High Street recently. For all its convenience online shopping does not replace human interaction or places to go, because very soon apart from maybe capital cities the only places to go will be supermarkets, restaurants and bars and that’s it! Glad that they are there but….Wow how depressing is that…? Oh sorry I forgot about the Charity Shops!! (! (How could I?) Still it does make me feel very low thinking of a future with virtually ‘nowhere to go’…
