Like a cam from yesterday‘s year…
Well, it seems I can‘t stop myself from trying out and buying ‘dodgy’ digital cameras. The latest is an eBay purchase, a ‘new’ Agfaphoto DC8200. Before I saw it on eBay, I was intrigued. It kept popping up on my online searches. And because of the low prices and knowing the Agfa brand I signed up for their containing some offers. Still, I didn‘t ‘bite’…it was when I saw a review online stating “whatever you do, don‘t buy this camera”, I thought, is it really that BAD? And seeing one on a low bid on eBay, it was immediately added to my watch list. Auction day came I was the only bidder (should I have been worried?)…obviously I won and at a very good price too. Retailing at around £90 on Amazon, it was a mere snip at £28 plus postage. Now for the description and experience. It is a BASIC camera with not a lot of options or vast setting controls.
Expected I guess, but there are some settings and scenes. It also makes a noise switching on, and when you take a photo making it not ideal for stealth work…the noise can‘t be turned off (at least I haven‘t found a way yet…). My first tests were made indoors at night which was far too dark and testing for this camera, so the next day I went into the garden and started snapping there. The odd and slightly disturbing aspect of this camera is that when you‘re composing a shot and half pressing the shutter , the camera zooms in and out for about 10 seconds in a very noisy manner trying to focus before a green box appears. Then you need to complete the action and take the photo at that moment. Well, even that doesn‘t work all the time! Out of 70 shots, just 5 are in focus and even that is debatable…good grief, maybe that reviewer was right and ‘bang on the money’. I’ve left the date stamp on as apparently it‘s ‘trendy’ now. The photos posted here are some random shots whilst walking around the Stradivarius store. I have to say I‘m happy with the retro feel, so no complaints there. They captured the tan suede to perfection, or is it fake? Anyway…going out again this weekend, to be ‘snap happy’ there‘s no stopping me now!
