Marianne does ‘Maison Margiela’….!

So with the onset of Spring this week Marianne is ‘celebrating in style’ with her own homage to Maison Margiela’s key Spring look, it’s certainly a ‘makeover’ complete with Beehive, metallic and transparency representing some of the top trends this season. There was no ‘holding’ back and in some respects there was a bit of a ‘make do & mend’ approach = ‘no nonsense’! Marianne’s fashion experiment proves that even on a very tight budget this high-end and cutting edge style can still be achieved for (wait for it) under £20.00!

Yes, this seems totally ‘crazy’ but is absolutely true. On falling ‘in love’ with this look a little while back, I knew I just had to give it a go. So planning commenced back in January to order in advance some essentials from Ebay, namely the ‘high sheen’ tights (well relatively ‘high sheen’) at £1.60 it’s the best you can expect, and the elegant satin gloves also £1.60, the black large-style fishnet tights were £1.99. The white top was a customised piece (from an old vest top) with metallic fabrics for the collage £1.00 & 80p respectively. The sheer long dress was made by ‘moi’ (I am no dressmaker) but well….I thought I’d ‘give it a shot’, with the transparent fabric costing £1.95. The on trend metallic side draped skirt was a bargain at £3.00 from the H&M sale.

'Behave' with a Beehive! The ‘pinnacle’ Beehive was created using two hair ‘doughnuts’ and two long blonde wigs both from Poundland = £4.00. I have to admit, it was a bit of a ‘hairdressing challenge’ but the look was finally achieved and I must say I’m rather pleased with the result! The shoes were an issue…hammering a hole for a mannequin stand through a shoe is no easy job, so I had to cheat with the shoes and ‘finish in post’. The bag was fairly difficult to source…I almost gave up…but eventually found one just by chance at the charity shop for £1.00.

It’s not exactly a ‘Maison Margiela’ bag (it’s Barrett’s – do they exist anymore?), but well it was the best I could do without spending a fortune…bringing the grand total to £16.94! Not bad at all….and I must say Marianne is looking ‘mighty fine’ in this style. It’s very’ fashion forward’, maybe not the look to go and visit Lidl etc, but well that’s something Marianne just ‘doesn’t do’ (although, I do), as well as source the clothes, fabric’s, accessories, travel about, order and buy them…’style them’…guess I’m just her ‘fashion slave’!

And now for the accessories

there's more than one type of 'doughnut' & it's at Poundland!

it's more 'goodbye' for now...
