Midweek ‘Man-nee-cure…’
Found this rather forlorn manicure set at a junk shop it was dusty, looking old & rather jaded…I was drawn to the fact it was by BHS in bygone times (one of my fav shops – it’s so sensible & well ‘no nonsense‘ ) the set intriguingly came with the title “Lyme Regis”. A charming seaside town on the Dorset coast in which everything felt ‘most proper‘ on my visit. A place exuding an ‘old ‘worldly’ charm’ combined with ‘windswept mystery‘, brooding, as captured in the film The French Lieutenant’s Woman.
So I just had to give this item a ‘Nestie makeover‘, I decided I would just give it a ‘quick lift‘ adding sequins, ribbons & embroidery. This gives the item a more ‘prettier‘ look, suitable now as a gift. I suppose I have gone against my ‘no nonsense approach’ by adding the bows, but well sometimes you do have to ‘go against the grain‘….& it did need it..
I have also done this under my own ‘RagAsh’ label, a name which came to me so violently, it was like I was being ‘savagely attacked’… so I do feel rather satisfied that I have rescued this piece. The Cobb (sea wall) in Lyme Regis is also featured in Jane Austen’s Persuasion – I wonder if Jane would think of ‘neatening her nails’ & taking my ‘man-nee-cure’? Anyway I think I’ll take a break now…& maybe ‘take the cure‘…myself I could sure do with it….& oh they do a great cream tea down there! Try it!
