Selfie ‘no’! No Selfie!

Because I’m not one of the younger generation…I guess I am a bit ‘behind’ on the phenomenon of the selfie, though as you can see here I’m trying to join in somewhat. I guess I’m not ‘getting’ what is so utterly ‘fascinating’ about taking a picture of yourself constantly and consistently, is this the case or an era of extreme narcissism?? shopping and selfies - a good mix?Surely the internet is weighed down now with the millions upon millions of selfies, so I say enough already! Can we please stop obsessing about ourselves and trying to make ourselves look better with the aid of a filter? (no wonder online dating is a minefield..you could literally make yourself into someone else) but is this healthy? I think not…from my perspective I am bored with it….travelling around London recently, not only do you have to ‘grapple with a crowd’, but now you can be literally caught dead in your tracks by suddenly someone ‘doing a selfie’…oh dear…and what gets me is that the person shows no sign of embarrassment or cringing etc (which I would…). to buy or not to buy? That is the question amongst all the things... It’s like people talking very loudly about either their personal life or financial details whilst on the train, merrily in their ‘own world’ with no conception or care it seems that anyone is watching or listening.  The mobile phone has changed how we behave or misbehave is probably more appropriate…the amount of products available is rather 'mind-boggling'... Looking into the selfie phenomenon there is I discovered a ‘whole range of products’, starting with the ubiquitous selfie stick, (could this also multitask as my weapon of choice to whack anyone doing a selfie…I think yes), onto a selfie mirror ‘what’s not to love?’ Please! To a selfie kit with a multitude of ‘different disguises’, in fact I rather like this one, as there is an element of fun to be added which I think is missing from most selfies…yes I can do without that pout or ‘fish face’ or ‘whatever it is’. knowing where...to put the selfie make up is keyOne of the most fascinating aspects, is the one of  ‘special makeup’ aka ‘contouring’ flamed by the fame of the ‘Selfie Queen’ herself Kim Kardashian.  A whole industry of contour kits has been born, as well as courses (think I might need to do one) vloggers, books, magazine articles, how to’s, the list goes on and on.  to 'contour' or 'strobe'? Another difficult choice to make in the world of selfies..

From a 'selfie' mirror, to a selfie 'disguise' kit, you're bound to find something you like! So can I really make myself ‘look’ like Kim K with a bit of clever make-up?? To be honest when I first discovered contouring I was immediately brought back to Knot’s Landing and Val’s nose, with the white highlight going down it, and the enhanced cheeks to boot.  The cheeks I could deal with, but the nose it wasn’t even blended in, it just sat there ‘gleaming’, which leads me on to another selfie makeup ‘strobing’ maybe this is what Val was doing? So its origins can be traced back to the 1980’s? Despite my many reservations about the selfie, makeup I do find fascinating,  so I think I will do a course, maybe this could open up a ‘whole new ballgame’?was 'Val' AKA Joan van Ark the original contourer??
