‘That 70’s ‘thang’ – the floppy hat’
Another key trend this season is ’70’s Chic’, as I grew up in the 70’s this is no news to me… I have always known this, it’s just its taken decades for everyone else to realise this & catch up! Honestly forget the bad pictures of your relative’s clashing colours, flyaway collars, dodgy hairdos & ridiculous sideburns, think instead of the ‘glamour & chic’ of Halston, Ysl, Bill Gibb & Ossie Clark to name but a few. So throwaway any ‘preconceived ideas’, & jump on the 70’s bus & enjoy the ride! With this trend in mind I took another walk down the High St to see what offerings of this look I could find…well I was pleased to find that the key item highlighting this trend was the floppy hat, in fact I could hardly escape them!!
Now if this isn’t the epitome of a ‘cool & chic’ look from the 70’s I don’t know what is! It certainly made a fashion statement then & now… I didn’t wear this look as a child but I have vivid memories of teenage girls & young women sporting this ‘casual chic’ trend & I was green with envy! and now ‘I’m a tad too old’?? For the ole ‘floppy hat look’ – I mean it just wouldn’t ‘look right’ (or so I gather) which left me feeling right depressed, so I’m posting a few images in a slideshow (yes I am ‘getting jiggy with it’ regarding technology!) of how it was done the first time around to 1) Get real nostalgic about 2) To cheer myself up in the realisation I just can’t ‘get away with it now’, so ouch! that hurts! just when something comes back in ‘I’m out’ so to speak….dam…maybe..I could just wear the floppy hat & hold my head slightly down & to the side & ‘no one will notice‘…no you’re right a bad idea..so it looks like I’m more ‘top of the flops instead of pops’ this time around…
