‘Valentine Me Up’..!
So Valentine’s Day is upon us, and for those of us who are expecting no Valentine’s Day cards, chocolates, or flowers…this day can be rather depressing…but wait! Why get down about it? It’s so ‘in your face’ and ‘absolutely everywhere’ (as my pictures will attest) that’s it’s laughable! There is it seems, no escaping it or ignoring it..oh no..oh dear! So what options do you have? None! Except ‘embracing it head on’ ‘and facing the music’. Whether that be ‘bad’ (and kind of out of tune) or ‘good’ and hopefully uplifting. It’s time to drown your ‘Valentine sorrows’, in a good cup of ‘self-sympathy’ and comfort (and why not??). It’s time to ‘go with it all the way’ and prepare yourself with a soothing drink (I suggest hot chocolate) a Valentine cake (see mine below) and maybe chocolates, then buy yourself a bunch of flowers, get under that duvet for a really good weepy (preferably starring Bette Davis) as no matter what happens to her in a film she always comes back fighting fit and extra sassy! So have the High Street come up with anything original this Valentine’s Day? No I think not from what I found…Though I have to admit I rather like the Loveheart sweet tins, as they take me back right back to my childhood and bring back memories of sweet comfort and joy..! (At least I like to believe so…)Also it was good to see that the Charity Shop ‘got on board’ with the Valentine’s Day theme (I mean do they have any choice these days??) with their ‘red hot display’, comprising of a love cushion, book and CD (though not sure I will buying any of these I’m afraid..). Looking around I found two bags that might well suit a Valentine’s Day night out, a sweet heart shaped basket (v cute!) and a clutch with a large bow, which receives my very ‘esteemed’ seal of approval lips sticker! There was also a good array of ’pucker up’ make-up bags, also receiving my ‘esteemed’ seal of approval lips sticker! I was pleasantly surprised to find a suitably dressed mannequin in the House of Fraser looking very sultry in a bold floral print skirt, black simple sleeveless top and beautiful ‘Veronica Lake’ side swept hairstyle, which also received my ‘lips of approval!’ (Whoa..going quite good here..).
Of course there was the usual ‘love’ emblazoned items..(not original..) teddies and candles, which I suppose, are ‘acceptable’ for Valentine’s day but does not receive my seal of approval at all! Oh no! All and all I hope you enjoy Valentine’s Day and take it for what it is, a convection of red blooms, (whether real or fake..) crass commercialism served with a dollop of self-satisfied comfort in the shape of either my suggested Valentine’s Day hot chocolate and cake. Or pick one of your own the choices are ‘endless’..!
