Devil wears….

One of my great indulgences is to go to my local Odeon on a Monday for one of their half-price seats. At £14.49 for a full-price ticket, it’s a necessity; there is no way on earth I’m paying that unless it’s a special screening or in 3D. And what better film to escape into than the new Devil Wears Prada 2? I saw the original in 2006, and to see the follow-up was an absolute must. It was an excellent debut back in 2006, and made a star of Emily Blunt. I’m not a fan of Mel Streep, even though she does a brilliant turn as Miranda. Well, what can I say? Although the premise of the story is a bit weak at times, I was not disappointed. I just enjoyed the ride through fashion New York style, a great escape from the grim coastal town where I live.

coffee ‘dilemma’ solved…!

But product placement, hello? How many Starbucks did Andy drink? In full camera view the Starbucks logo, zoomed in, panned/tracked as she walked? Also Diet Coke, Apple, and other designer products. But let’s focus on the more accessible items like Diet Coke and Starbucks; I’m not a Coke drinker, but on leaving the film, I captured a discarded Coke Zero, okay, it’s not diet but near enough. And Starbucks? Well, I found an absolute steal in a charity shop, a like ‘new’ Starbucks mug for just £1! Cheaper for me to recreate a ‘Devil wears Prada moment’ by making a coffee at home…In the film Andy drinks takeaway, but it’s near enough without spending a bomb…And I do have one of those red LED face lights (though what good it’s doing, I’m not sure), but at least it’s making me feel as though I’m doing ‘something’ about ageing. Even though I’m not living a high-fashion lifestyle, (excepting my head), I can at least make a nod to it with my at-home Starbucks coffee; maybe I’ll upgrade later…to a takeout whilst I walk nonchalantly down the High Street, dreaming of New York skyscrapers, fashion mania, designer labels, and catwalk chaos, and why not? Because we all have to escape sometimes.
